Back in Paris 1887 the first so called raced took place and ran a little more than a mile, since just one competitor took part on it, it is hard to call it a race. However, it marked the beginnings of the organized competitions. Seven years later, the first real competition took place in France 102 people registered, 69 cars participated in the selection event and from those, only 25 were selected to take part in the race that lasted 6 hours and 48 minutes for the winner Peugot. Almost 124 years later, the variety and professionalism of the organization of these events is so huge that we can talk about a multi million dollar industry. In this article we will focus on F1, Nascar and Drag Races.

F1 is one of the most popular higher class auto racing for a single seater. F1 is run in special circuits as well as in public roads conditioned to host the events. In order to compete or even be part constructor teams, track officials, organizers, drivers and circuits are required to have a valid Super License. The aggregate audience for each event of F1 is as high as 600 million viewers. F1 is the formula with the biggest budget that attracts the best drivers, constructors and, of course, sponsors. Races are hold in 19 different countries, Bahrain, Australia, Malaysia, China, Spain, Monaco Turkey, Canada, Europe, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Brazil, and Abu Dhabi.

When it comes to American Sport Cars, we have to mention Nascar, which is the second American sport in audience, second to American football only. These car races are transmitted in more than 150 countries and it represents a several billion dollar industry. Nascar is sponsored by more Fortune 500 companies than any other motor sport. Nascar also claims to have 75 million fans world wide.

A quite different sport within the car races is what we call drag racing. The name of these car races is speed, with races raging from just under 4 seconds to 17 seconds where most of them are ΒΌ mile long and reaching speeds of up to 290 miles per hour around 335 km/h. These events are huge in the United States, The United Kingdom, Australia, Europe and other nations.

These 3 car races that we mentioned are just a very general picture of some of the most famous motor sports, however, there are hundreds of car races and formulas that have millions of fans as well.
